Coasts and Mountains

Multi Sport Volcanoes and Tropical Coasts ( Easy to moderate program ) 9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS

Day 1

Upon arrival you´ll be picked up at the airport and transferred to the Hotel in San Jose.

Day 2

11:30 am Breakfast and then transfer to the Sarapiquí River for a White Water Rafting trip. This tour takes us through a beautiful part of the river filled with exciting white water rapids and beautiful ponds, all surrounded by a wonderful natural scenery. This is a great tour for people who are going rafting for their first time, but who also want excitement and great rapids. It is also a great tour for people with previous experience in rafting.

Then transfer to Arenal and check in at your hotel. Arenal is the youngest and most active of all the mountains in Costa Rica. Arenal rises 1657 metres above sea level and overlooks Lake Arenal; both are part of Arenal Volcano National Park. The country's most active volcano, Arenal's eruptions are strombolian in type, being frequent but moderate and can be viewed without danger as long as the viewers are behind the safety perimeter. This constant activity and minimal endangerment makes Arenal a popular tourist destination, especially at night, because the lava and incandescent rocks make a spectacular sight.

Meals: B,L,D

Day 3

08:00 am. Pick up and transfer to the Arenal Volcano and hike at El Silencio lookout point to reach an old Lava flow trail in the boundaries of the National Park. Mirador El Silencio Reserve has 4 trails located in a 556-acre property, with 247 acres of old growth forest, where a wide variety of animals in their natural habitat can be watched. The Forest’s varied vegetation include majestic trees such as Ceibo and the trumpet-tree or Guarumo, where a wide-range of birds nest. Located just opposite of the impressive Arenal Volcano, the Reserve is the best lava observation point, which together with a wide variety of local fauna, bird watching possibilities and trails make this an unforgettable experience.

Lunch at the Hotel. Afternoon hike to the Fortuna Waterfall where after a short steep walk you can swim at the bottom of the 200 feet high cascade. The La Fortuna Waterfall offers some of the most gorgeous scenery in all of Costa Rica. The 70-meter ribbon of water falls into a great swimming hole, surrounded by lush tropical forest, protected by the local conservation project. The water below is a greenish-blue that makes for a pleasing view. Optional visit to Hot springs, Overnight in Arenal.

Meals: B, L,D

Day 4

08:00 am After breakfast transfer to the North Pacific. While we drive you will enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake Arenal, the largest of Costa Rica. Surrounded by rolling hills of pastured and forested land, the imposing cone of Volcan Arenal dominates its eastern vista. Following the 1968 eruption, Lake Arenal was enlarged to 3 times its original size, an area of 85.5 km (33 sq. miles). Now its basin forms a hydroelectric project that produces 9% of Costa Rica's electricity. Lake Arenal is the key driver in a nationwide hydroelectric project that currently produces the majority of electricity for the entire country. Water depth generally varies between 100 and 200 feet (61 m). The communities of "old" Arenal and Tronadora were submerged by the expanded lake.

Lunch on route. Check in at the Lodge and hike to the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano National Park to explore the mud pots and transition from the tropical dry forest to the rainforest, natural habitat of monkeys, toucans, coatis, agoutis and other forms of wildlife. Rincón de la Vieja (1,895 meters), an active volcano in a period of relative calm, is the largest of five volcanoes that make up the Cordillera de Guanacaste. It is composed of nine separate but contiguous volcanic craters, with dormant Santa María (1,916 meters) the tallest and most easterly. Its crater harbors a forest-rimmed lake popular with quetzals, linnets, and tapirs. The main crater--Von Seebach, sometimes called the Rincón de la Vieja crater--still steams. Icy Lake Los Jilgueros lies between the two craters. The last serious eruption was in 1983. The attractions are protected in the 14,083-hectare Parque Nacional Volcán Rincón de la Vieja, which extends from 650 to 1,965 meters in elevation on both the Caribbean and Pacific flanks of the cordillera. The two sides differ markedly in rainfall and vegetation.

Overnight at Hacienda Guachipelín or similar. Meals: B,L,D

Day 5

07:30 am After breakfast, you will get ready to discover hidden waterfalls, pastures and blue water rivers colored by the volcanic activity, while you exercise your legs riding a great bike all over the trails. After this event you will have lunch and in the afternoon take a 15 minutes walk to the Canyon tour where you will swing like Tarzan from platform to platform along the canyon of the Río Blanco. Our specialized guides are very professional and will make sure that you have a safe experience. We pack together in it, many more things than just the zip lines. Imagine yourself doing Rappeling, Rock Climbing, Canopy, Tarzan Swings, Via Ferrata, Hanging Bridges, all set in the majestic canyon made by the erosion of the Blanco River during millions of years.

Day 6

Day 7

07:30 am After breakfast you will take a sailing boat to go snorkeling out in the pacific coast, a remote area of lonely beaches. Experience a half day of sailing and exploring the impressive Costa Rican coast! While sailing you might watch dolphins, whales, turtles, manta rays and bat rays to mention just a few of the marine life that densely populate this area of the Pacific Ocean. Anchored in a secluded bay where you can snorkel in the coral reef and rock formations, swim, explore tropical jungles and mangroves or simply enjoy the empty, quiet and secluded beach. Our experienced crew is happy to guide you or assist you in any of these activities.

Afternoon at leisure. Meals: B,L,D

Day 8

11:00 am Transfer back to San José. Lunch on route.

Meals: B,L.

Day 9

Pick up at your hotel in San José and transfer to airport.

What to bring? This is going to be a warm place with temperatures ranging between 75°F in San José, 90°F in Manuel Antonio, 75°F in Arenal and 85°F in Tortuguero, so bring shorts and T shirts, but just in case bring a light jacket for the nights in Arenal. Swimming suit is necessary, hiking shoes or good snickers and an extra pair of shoes, sandals with straps for rafting, suntan lotion, insects repelent (this I recommend just in case), flashlight, a rain coat (it is dry season but who knows what could happen), binoculors, camera and good vibrations to enjoy the beauty of this little peaceful country that we are happy to show you.

Remember there is a departure tax of $26.00 per person.
